mandates

The Vancouver Aboriginal Community Policing Centre is guided by mandates from the Aboriginal community in Vancouver. These mandates include:

  1. Reduce over-representation of Aboriginal people in at-risk or criminal circumstances
  2. Build community support and participation for community policing and safety issues

The ongoing approach to achieving the mandates is to:

  1. Offer advocacy, victim assistance, referrals, education, awareness and culturally relevant programs that promote crime prevention and safety
  2. Follow an Aboriginal code of ethics in all decisions affecting the society
  3. Establish culturally sensitive prevention and diversion programs
  4. Enhance related community services by building partnerships with organizations that complement the goals of the society
  5. Secure resources through government, private sector and foundations to maintain, improve and enhance programming
  6. Act as liaison with law enforcement agencies and professionals within the criminal justice system
